Quietly unforgettable –
Impact that lasts generations

The Studio works most naturally with purpose led organisations. Businesses with a story to tell and an experience ready to enhance.
Heritage landscapes, visitor and hospitality attractions, wellbeing settings, and active participation destinations.

Places where story, landscape and people genuinely matter.

Collaborators, creatives, artists and poets make up the Lowenva Studio orchestra. With Laura as composer, Lowenva Studio believes if it moves people, it's worth doing.

How we enhance what you do

Lowenva Studio arrives when the gap between intention and feeling has grown too wide.

00.

Most work with Lowenva does not begin with a brief.

It begins with a conversation. Often over good food.
Sometimes walking the ground together.

Always with curiosity, intention and feeling.

Brand experience and storytelling

Every organisation has a story. Not every organisation is telling it in a way people actually feel. Lowenva Studio finds the real narrative and builds the strategy, language and experience to make it land.

Interpretation and narrative strategy

Interpretation and experience design for heritage sites, landscapes, nature projects and gardens – going beyond signage and trails to design the moments that let visitors discover what makes a place extraordinary.

Visitor and experience journey design

Lowenva Studio maps the full visitor journey. Every touchpoint, transition and missed opportunity, identifying the glimmers that make somewhere worth returning to. We design the traditions people are waiting to bring into their lives and dream up the ones that are still missing.

Play and adventure are at the heart of all experiences.

Event curation and delivery

Ambitious, on brand programming and collaboration can enhance the impact of a place or a business, amplify your story and create memories that are unforgettable.

Large scale events or small scale intimate gatherings. From the glimmers of an idea something special can evolve.

Building experiences for the future., not just for now. Build something people will talk about for the right reasons.

A life spent inside the places that matter

Lowenva [low-en-va]

Cornish word meaning ‘place of happiness’.

Blonde woman wearing a blue jacket standing outdoors near pink flowering bushes.

Local roots.

Laura Smit Chesterfield grew up within The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project – two of Britain’s most extraordinary living landscapes and visitor destinations. This is where she learnt the power of good people, believing in a dream and of the enchantment of a great story.

After a career in the voluntary and criminal justice sector, Laura joined the Heligan team to go on to achieve amazing things. Proudly leading as Managing Director and also Director of Experience and Legacy. What she built in this time was not just a career, it was a unique insight in what happens when story, place and people truly align.

Happiness comes from connection to people, places and nature and the work of this studio is rooted in this belief.

Stories made physical.

A six-metre fox sculpture that made national news. Beavers reintroduced within a Cornish estate. The South West's largest outdoor play space. The world's largest Bug Hotel. Work that started as a wild idea and ended up changing how people felt about a place through the stories that were played out on the stage. Everyone has a story...they just need courage to tell it loudly.

Wood shelter with stacked logs on both sides and a path leading through, with signs reading 'Bugginghum' and 'Palace' under green leafy trees.

Planet at the core.

Laura’s love of the natural world runs through all her work. She led Heligan to gain B Corp accreditation and they received The King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2025 under her leadership. Mother Nature has a seat at Lowenva's board room table, meaning sustainability isn't a bolt-on. It's baked into how the Studio thinks from day one.

Human first.

Shaped by years working in the domestic abuse and animal welfare sector, Laura leads with care and emotional intelligence, listening deeply, noticing what others miss, and creating the conditions where the right ideas can surface. She takes on work her children will be proud of. Legacy and future generations are never an afterthought.

"Making and installing Lowarnes at Heligan was one of the best experiences in our 30-year career of creating site specific artworks. Laura is an ideal collaborator; creative, supportive, with a strong intuitive sense of what would work for the spirit of place. She’s brilliant at motivating people too, so we were blessed with enthusiastic help from her team. We literally couldn’t have done it without her or them."
Sue Hill
Cornish Artist and Theatre-Maker, Performer, Storyteller, Curator and Director.
"Collaborating with Laura to create a brand-new event from scratch has been joyful. She is open to ideas, bright as a firefly and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with her."
Jo Pocock
Artistic Director, Lantern Company
"Laura reads a landscape the way a good storyteller reads a room. She understands the soul of a place and creates experiences around it that invite people into deeper connection, wellbeing, and a quiet sense of enchantment. To work with her is to become a friend."
Rupert Isaacson
Writer, Teacher & Founder of the Horse Boy Method.
"Creative, thoughtful, industrious and an excellent communicator, Laura brings a great understanding of people and place to every project: she’s brilliant!"
Alasdair Moore
Head of Gardens & Estate, Tresco Abby Gardens, Isles of Scilly.
