In her previous role as Managing Director and Director of Experience & Legacy at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Laura led and contributed to a range of award winning projects spanning events, artistic installations, play, interpretation, horticulture, festivals, wellbeing programming and sustainability. Heligan Night Garden

Laura led the team in concepting, curating and operationally developing The Heligan Night Garden in 2020. An award winning immersive event created from scratch, rooted in the ecological story. Delivered in collaboration with artists and creative partners to tell stories of the hidden natural world. Now drawing visitors from multi generations, it has become a tradition that changed how people experienced the place, growing a commercial opportunity within the Winter season.

Lowarnes Sculpture Project

Laura project managed the creation of a landmark sculpture installation at Heliigan, collaborating with artists Sue Hill, Pete Hill & Hal Sylvester to celebrate the natural world through ambitious site specific art. The installation connects people with landscape and creativity, attracts national press coverage, draws new visitors, and leaves a lasting legacy inspiring curiosity and care of place.

Farm Park Development

Farm Park Development

Laura project managed the development of the South West’s first accredited Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) farm park. This diversification opened new ways to share stories of conservation, native livestock, and vital genetics. Through implementing high welfare standards and breeding programmes, alongside an engaging events programme, the project connected visitors with animals, food systems, and the importance of protecting rare and heritage breeds within British Farming.

Cornish word meaning ‘place of happiness’.

Local roots.

Laura Smit Chesterfield grew up within The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project – two of Britain’s most extraordinary living landscapes and visitor destinations. This is where she learnt the power of good people, believing in a dream and of the enchantment of a great story.

After a career in the voluntary and criminal justice sector, Laura joined the Heligan team to go on to lead major projects across events, interpretation, conservation and sustainability. Proudly leading as Managing Director and also Director of Experience and Legacy. What she was part of building in this time was not just a career, it was a unique insight in what happens when story, place and people truly align.

Happiness comes from connection to people, places and nature and the work of this studio is rooted in this belief.

Work that starts as a wild idea and ends up changing how people feel about a place, service or an experience, is done simply through enhancing the stories that are played out on your stage. Everyone and every business has a story...they just need courage to tell it loudly.

Planet at the core.

Laura’s love of the natural world runs through all her work. She previously led Heligan's team to gain B Corp accreditation in 2024 and they received The King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2025 under her leadership.

Mother Nature has a seat at Lowenva Studios board room table, meaning sustainability isn't a bolt-on. It's baked into how the Studio thinks from day one.

Shaped by years working within both the domestic abuse and animal welfare sectors, Laura leads with care and emotional intelligence, listening deeply, noticing what others miss, and creating the conditions where the right ideas can surface.
